Hello, Travelers

The American Expat Diary

Welcome to my online travel diary, and American expat resource center. My name is Sarah and I am a 30 something, Texas-born, American expat with a big love for travel.

In truth, I have been traveling all my life. Born as a pilot’s daughter, I was destined to see the world. I had more round-trips under my belt than months in my life by the time I hit my second birthday. I feel that the exposure to people and places around the world has molded me into a better person, a global citizen. It is my goal to break down borders and embolden others to live out their life and travel dreams. Expat-life is not always easy, but here you will find resources, guides, and community to help you on your journey.

The Background Story

Born and raised in a small Texas town, I relocated to Charleston, SC for university. This European-inspired, historic city is thriving with culture and worldly aesthetic. This undoubtedly further ignited my desire to see the world.

Exactly one year after my college graduation, I had big plans! I was ready to leave Charleston and start an even bigger adventure, moving to Spain. I lived on the Spanish island of Mallorca as I studied for a Masters of International Business. While there, I adopted my 4-legged travel buddy, Dima. You will see him featured in many photos on this site.

A year later on a trip to revisit my beloved island, fate hit again when I met a Belgian paratrooper named Charles. Fast forward through years of long-distance relationship, being separated by covid, immigration issues, and we are finally together at last! We are currently living in Belgium, renovating our first home together, planning our wedding, and basking in the joy of our new-born son. I created this blog as a way for my family to keep track of my adventures, but it has grown into so much more.

Now, this site is a resource for fellow American expats, a travel guide for international travelers, and a place to share stories of life and travels abroad.

As always, I do not know exactly what the future holds, but I am absolutely loving every second of this great adventure.

Feel free to follow along with me as the journey unfolds.
